As this really is all Bonnie’s fault, she’s front and centre with the action this week. Despite the dubious evidence regarding vampires having ghosts, it’s also an opportunity to meet some old buddies. Mason, for example, was a company fan favourite during his shorter time on the show, and his death was one of several show’s more ruthless killings. Finding him back reminds all of us how temporary he truly was, though, and there is not any pressing need for him to stay apart from a uncovering he makes with Damon. He’s with a mission to help Tyler’s new Hybrid status, and the pair create a very interesting discovery.
One character we never got to see enough of appeared to be Stefan’s friend, Lexi, who the audience have heard far more about than seen first-hand. Now we get to notice her control over Stefan in action, even if it’s just a little ineffective at this juncture. A number of weeks ago, Elena was reminded with the decades it took in order to bring Stefan back in the brink, but with a spectral Lexi in the frame it all seems just a little too easy. Hopefully, once Elena takes over the ‘Ripper detox INFO, ‘ things will be more challenging. I can’t help thinking that Caroline is likely to be the key to his / her return, as she’s been compared to Lexi several times in the past.
Meanwhile, Jeremy’s playing a very dangerous game with all the women in his living. Whilst still boyfriend to help Bonnie, the reason everyone’s in this mess to start with, he’s been spending a lot of time with ex, Anna.
Just like most of Jeremy’s ex-girlfriends, Anna was a character that none with the fans particularly warmed to, and we’re never fairly sure whether to confidence her motives here or perhaps not. What bothered me most about this episode was, if most of the cast are being haunted by individuals with unfinished business, where are every one of the ghosts that think some people left the iron upon? And where was Jenna? Just like most shows like Vampire Diaries, sending back a party regarding old players inevitably retains things feeling incomplete.
I secretly hope that Elena doesn’t find a way to break Stefan too shortly, as I was having fun with his bad side. We haven’t seen enough with the Ripper yet, and for any show that usually defies outlook, it would be a shame that they are so conventional as to come back the happy couple consequently soon. There’s also Damon in the mix, and some impending cross types mythology ready for in a few days. My personal wish-list likewise includes more Rick, as well as less missing cast members in future episodes.
